The Episcopal Church USA is a member of the Anglican Communion, "a fellowship, with the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, of those duly constituted Diocese, Provinces, or Regional Churches in communion with the See of Canterbury," England, which "uphold and propagate the Catholic and Apostolic Faith and order as set forth in the Book of Common Prayer."

The faith taught by Anglicans in none other than the Christian faith, no more and no less. All teachings are those of the ancient and undivided Church.

Christian doctrine, as taught by Anglicans, must conform to three criteria: Scripture, Tradition, and Reason.

The Christian faith is summarized in the two ancient and ecumenical creeds, the Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed, which are the traditional standards of faith, second only to scripture, in the Church.

The Church's ministry is a ministry of the Word and Sacraments. The Gospel is proclaimed at each Mass and the people of God are invited to participate in the Seven Sacraments of the Church. The two principal sacraments are: Baptism and Eucharist.

Mission and Outreach

Atonement has had a lively outreach ministry in Edgewater for many years, and we want to honor that history of faithful service by continuing some long-standing outreach ministries and embarking on several new ones. The Outreach Team chart (found under the Mission and Outreach page or follow this link) will help clarify some areas of ministry and opportunities for getting involved...there will certainly be considerable overlap and cooperation between the various groups. Are the outreach ministries listed on the chart the only ones we’re interested in? NO! But it seems wise to try to focus on a few ministries at first and then develop new ones as we discover the ongoing needs of our community and the world.

Youth Theater Ministry
Serendipity Youth Theatre, modeled on the British Repertory Theatre Concept is a ministry for youth. The plays are written, staged and acted by the youth in not only our church theater but also in schools and churches in the area. Contact Tom Camacho, Director at 773-728-0741 or email him at enlair2@hotmail.com for more information or to recommend a student. You may also review the website at www.serendipity4youth.org.
